1969 Dodge Coronet 440

I doubt that whoever bought this car new thought of it as a future classic, but pretty much anything built by Chrysler between 1965 and 1970 is now a collectable. The model number '440' does not mean that this car was sold with Chrysler's biggest engine - there was also a 'Coronet 500'. Most of these were sold with the 318 V8 and it could be bought with the 383.

1964 Volkswagen Type 34

The Type 34 was VW's premium model. It cost about twice as much as a Beetle. Though never officially sold in the US, some dealers imported them and some G.I.s brought them back after their tours of Germany. This is the only one I've ever seen. Jay Leno covered the Type 34 a while back.

1994 Subaru Domingo Van

Right-hand-drive vehicles made for Japan are popular in Seattle. Note the Domingo is not built to Japanese minicar "kei car" specs. Kei cars are limited to engines of 660 cc. The Domingo's engine is 1.2 litres. That's 2/3rds as big as the engine in a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide.

Oil Crisis? What Oil Crisis? 1973 Pontiac Grand Am

The GM A-body was America's standard car in the 1970s. GM sold about 600,000 vehicles per month in the US in 1973; about three times as many as they do now. The car pictured was America's best-selling car for years in the form of the Oldsmobile Cutlass.

The Grand Am was the top option package for the Pontiac LeMans series. It came standard with a gas-guzzling 400 c.i. V-8 and a premium interior. It was more expensive than that year's Pontiac GTO, another LeMans option package (and a shadow of the GTOs of the past). I've never seen a Grand Am four-door before; there were fewer than 9,000 made in 1973.

1963 International Harvester Scout 80

This is the oldest Scout I've seen in Seattle. Here's one from the next generation, and another from the final series. Like an old Jeep CJ, this vehicle has 3 shift levers: One to change gears, one to shift in and out of 4-wheel drive, and one to change between high- and low-range gears.
