1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo

Lotus built an average of fewer than 1,000 cars per year back in the day. The Esprit was ranked among the supercars of the time, and this one probably cost more than $50,000 in 1988; that's nearly $120,000 in 2017 dollars. The Esprit pictured is in pretty decent shape. The question is, why is it parked down by the docks in Portage Bay? This is a row of dirt spots where people frequently leave their extra cars for months at a time.

1972 Volvo 1800ES

I'd never heard of this car, much less seen one before moving to Seattle. Yet I've seen more than one of these in the city. The final edition of Volvo's classic P1800 series, only 8,077 Volvo 1800ES models were built between 1972-3.

1988 Volkswagen Fox

The Volkswagen Fox has the distinction of being the worst car I've ever driven. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a VW owner and I love my car.

But the Brazilian-built Volkswagen Gol, known is the US as the Fox, was not a great car. It was, after all, sold to compete with entry-level models like the Hyundai Excel. But I had a particular complaint against it: the pedals are so close together, it's almost impossible to step on only one of them. The Fox was never even available with an automatic transmission.

Other observations:
*You gotta love the blue pinstripes with a splash of hot pink, instantly dating this car to the 80s.
* This car is from Seattle all right: There's moss growing on it.
