1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu

End of an era. 1968 was the first year for the 307 V-8, the last new Chevy engine in the rock-simple days before pollution control and various tweaks designed to improve gas mileage. 68 was also the last year you could buy a car with low-back seats. Beginning in 1969 all cars were required to have high-back seats or headrests.

1958 Glas Goggomobil

Yes ladies and gentlemen, it's the Goggomobil. Boasting 15 hp, this car was the pride of Bavaria's other auto manufacturer, Hans Glas GmbH. In 1961 Glas built the first car with a flexible timing belt as well as the first overhead camshaft; inventions so important that BMW bought the Glas company in 1966 just to get hold of their patents. Amazingly enough, this car from the Greenwood car show is not the only Goggomobil I've seen in Seattle. The last picture below is one I spotted in an Aurora Ave shop.

1970 Plymouth Duster 340

These days you usually can't add options to an automaker's cheapest model to create a performance car. But in 1970 Plymouth's new Duster, built on the "compact" Valiant chassis could be ordered with a 340 c.i. V-8 and still cost only $2,500.

thetruthaboutcars.com says,"Speaking of muscle, the 340 had more than plenty. Advertised at an insurance-friendly 275 horsepower, the informed-user consensus had it pegged at more like 325+."
