GM definitely had some interesting interiors in the late 70s and early 80s. Google "Pontiac Safari Wagon Valencia interior" for images of a funky striped variation that was offered around that time period.
Thanks Rainer. Whatever problems GM had during the "Malaise Era", comfy seats wasn't one of them. A buddy of mine had an '80 Coupe DeVille that was the most comfortable car I've ever ridden in. Note also my dad had a '79 Cutlass wagon, so I have kind of a soft spot for this car, despite the fact that as a kid I was deeply annoyed that in that wagon, the rear windows didn't roll down. Finally, I'll be writing a bit about what went wrong at GM, and how its problems were reflected in some of the cars I've recently photographed. For one example, see my post about the Chevy Citation.

ReplyDeleteJust figured out that the pattern in the Cutlass was referred to as "Mojave." Here's a link to an ad for it back in the day:
