1963 Ford Thunderbird

There's no car that says, "They sure don't make 'em like this any more" quite like the Thunderbird. I spotted it out on the Kitsap peninsula, land of huge estates and eccentric people who can afford museum-quality classic cars. No kidding, this car is absolutely flawless. Note the tilt-away steering wheel.

1962 Mercury Comet, 1964 Ford Ranchero

Another example of there being so many 50-year old cars in Seattle, I can shoot them two at a time. 1962 was the first year that the Comet was a Mercury. Originally planned as an Edsel, it was sold as just "Comet" in 1960-61. This car and the Ranchero were based on the same platform.

1955 Ford Thunderbird Under a Twilight Sky

Just beautiful. A few observations:
* Note the lack of sun visors. In '56 both sun visors and vent windows were added to the windshield.
* It's very easy to distinguish a '55 from a '56. All '56s had the spare tire in a continental kit.
* Folks remember this car for the removable hardtop with a porthole in the side, but the '55 hardtop did not have the porthole, creating a wicked blind spot for the driver.

More Madness from The Concours d'Lemons

The Concours d'Lemons is a car show, "Celebrating the oddball, mundane and truly awful of the automotive world."

This 1954 Nash Rambler has been repowered by some kind of Ford turbocharged engine.

A nice 1967 Dodge Dart GTS. This one is just about ready for legit car shows.

This 1994 Autozam AZ-1 is a minicar from Japan.

Somebody decided to save a 1982 diesel Chevette. Neither the Chevette nor GM's diesels are remembered with much fondness.

This Diamond T truck has been turned into... something. I once saw it driving on I-5 in downtown Seattle.

This 1961 Fiat Jolly might be worth $150,000. Crazy but true.

This 1950 Morris Minor has been repowered with a Mercedes AMG engine. I'm surprised that engine doesn't bend the frame on this car.

The Citroën Méhari. Life in plastic, it's fantastic.
